So, the night of the ENGAGEMENT (you're wondering how long I'll continue writing it in obnoxious caps aren't you?) I kept asking him where he wanted to go to dinner for his birthday. He kept saying he hadn't decided. Finally he called me and said, "Get dressed up, I know where we're going." But then he wouldn't tell me, so of course I told him it was really weird he was taking me to a surprise dinner on his birthday; in which he replied, "Erica No Veto Day."
So dressed up I did get, and who am I to argue when someone tells me to put on a cute dress? Come to find out, we were going to The Compass, the restaurant on top of the Hyatt that spins.
I was pretty happy with the arrangement.

Yet, Zach seemed a bit nervous while eating our "custard trio" dessert. Hmmm...

So yes, I suspected something was up. Especially since our dining experiences usually consist of places where you order at the counter and then carry your food on a plastic tray to the table with the least amount of crumbs. But then dinner and dessert were over and we were on our way back to my apartment, so I decided my suspicions were false.
I bustled around in the kitchen when we got back, and then returned to the living room where Zach was quietly sitting on the couch looking a little pale. He told me to sit down next to him. And then he started saying nice things, and then my heart started beating out of my chest, and then he said to keep in mind that it was Erica No Veto Day, and that he had a question for me, and then he asked me to stand up, and then I got a little light headed, and then he got down on one knee.
And then he asked me.
And then I said yes.
This, everyone, is where the smiling began.

Really excited smiles are not the most attractive I discovered.

Time to plan a wedding!

I LOVE it! Your excited smile is so cute too! Let the planning begin.
Thank you very much for the details, but you left out EXACTLY what the nice things he said were. Those make my girly-girl heart melt. I guess those are sentimental... or whatever.
You looked so pretty that night! Wish I could say the same for the night we got engaged. And Zach- he looked so handsome! My Scott was wearing an ASU hat backwards and a surfing t-shirt. Looks like you got a keeper! (in case you didn't already know that for the past 6 years)
Please don't forget to blog about everything to do with the planning! (Wow, I need entertainment in my life)
I have a few comments, after I clear my tears of joy:
*There is something to be said for 2 people with integrity, niceness, smarts, beauty, love, humor and blissful hearts that find each other.
*I love how Zach tricked you
*I love how Zach was nervous and your face went pale
*I love that your children will love hearing this story of your sweet engagement over and over....especially your daughter(s)
I am crying too much to write anything right now....
That is SO SWEET. I have no other words.
*resumes blubbering*
that man is a genius!
to ask you on ENVD, good god, could be get any smarterer.
genius!
(also pretty smart for asking you, you know, the perfect person)
awww,
now you two will have genius babies.
genius ninja babies.
i'm interested to see what a bad-wedding-invitation-collector's wedding invitations will look like:)
I love your ENGAGEMENT story! How fun that you guys got to get all dressed up! And your I-just-got-engaged-pictures slash excited smiling pictures are WAY more attractive than mine! You guys are too cute, perhaps I just made Philip come and look at this post and he told me that he's glad because he really likes you guys. So congrats again!
Oh, and it's okay to look directly at your ring for the rest of your life and secretly think that yours is prettier than anyone else's that you see. Also, I won't laugh at you if you point out the fact that every time you're driving your diamonds will reflect fantastically on the roof of your car. Perhaps I still do all of those things!
Oh, and to agree with my sister Sara, you are lucky and have pretty hands. Sorry I wrote a novel.
Congratulations!!!! Love the whole story, whatta great guy! LOVE LOVE LOVE the ring...very cool! I'm excited to see the wedding planning posts. Fun stuff!
