I finished this a couple days ago. It's very good. I laughed out loud several times. Rob, the narrator, is just so...real. He's sad and he's lonely and also hilarious and self-aware and kind of a jackass. Also, I usually hate present-tense but Hornby pulls it off quite nicely. Besides I may have only hated present-tense because I've never seen it done well, being that the only place I've seen it done is in my creative writing classes during peer editing; with lines like, "I look in his eyes, I see his soul. I turn away and look in the mirror, I wonder if he sees my soul."
I will say though that the movie follows the book almost exaclty, so if you're a fan of the movie like me, it's kind of distracting because the movie plays in your head while you're reading the book.
But I likes it, therefore I give it a score of: "Cheeseburger"
By the way this is my new book review scoring system:
"Punch me in the face": the book sucked
"Meh" : the book was okay
"Cheeseburger": the book was awesome

i thought of some more books for you to read:
anything by chuck klosterman (start with Sex, Drugs and Coacoa Puffs) dudes love his stuff.
and "I know this much is true"
oh, "the atonement"
i think i already suggested "the lovely bones"
right now i am reading "malcom X" ill let you know.
See, see, see...I knew you'd like it. It does kinda suck seeing the movie first (as with any book) because it ruins your imagination.
I think you should read "The Love Letter" by Kathleen Shine (Schine?) next even though it was made into a movie, the movie was far inferior to the book. It's just a quick, sassy fun book to read. I think you'd like it a lot.
We seem to have very similar tastes in books so you need to listen to me.
I think you should read the New Testament next, follwed by the Old Testament, capping it off with The Plan of Salvation.
Good day.
(I like your review system)
Love the rating system! What were they thinking with that whole 4 stars thing anyway? The Cheeseburger is far superior.
Erica I'm so glad that you are doing book reviews, you read so many of them it's about time you blog it! If I EVER do start reading I'll know where to start.
