Malia and I were emailing the other day, as we often do, and we were talking about dating. Both being old married women now, we were discussing how the days of the "new boy", and the feelings that come along with a new boy, are over. Like that excited and nervous feeling you get after first realizing a new boy might like you. Or a boy being really interested in the things you have to say because he doesn’t know anything about you yet; or at least he pretends to be interested because you’re both still in that extra-polite stage. Then there was the texting, your stomach jumping when you get a text from him, then waiting a half-hour to respond so that you don’t seem too eager; and then staring at your phone until you get another one.
So Malia and I were discussing all this via gmail at work, and I started to kind of miss those new boy feelings. Especially when Zach was my new boy, and how exciting it was.
Later that day I went home, and I went in the bathroom. My hairbrush was sitting on the counter next to the sink. I picked it up to put it away, but then I noticed something. It was clean. There were no hairs in my hairbrush. Zach wandered in as I stood there holding my brush.
“Did you clean out my brush?”
“Yeah.”
“Thank-you!”
“Well,” he shrugged as he walked out, “I know you hate doing it.”
Would a new boy know that it completely GROSSES me out to clean the hair out of my brush? No, no he wouldn’t.

My non-new boy who puts up with this non-new girl.

That's actually not a bad husband-love post. I've read some before that have made me sick, but this one was just cute. :) Glad you are still loving your non-new boy.
I love reading your blog so much that I've linked you.
Hope that's okay?
Ok, so that was really cute. You are forgiven for a little mushiness--you old married fart
i miss you & malia! i love the post. you guys are cute (the good kind, not the gay kind). and i am thinking it may be time for you to make a new header... how would you feel about that?
Zach is such a loves.
He really does love you and for that reason alone I love him even more.
you know from that angle (the clean hair brush one) Zach is looking very Daniel Craig no?
I love this post, and per usual, you worded it perfectly. There is still unchartered land with our non new boys, and our moments of happiness are times like brushes, fortunately.
This is really one of the best husband-love posts I've read. Not too cheesy, and totally sincere. That is so cute. He's totally better than a new boy.
Awww, I heart LOVE.
AND he trimmed and cleaned up the hedges at his crotchety Grandma-in-laws condo all day last Saturday!!! Without a single complaint.
Zach is a saint.
very cute but the hair in the brush . . . not so cute. that picture of zach is pretty awesome too.
ah.....true love.
That is true love to clean out hair.
And do you watch 24? Because right when I saw that picture of Zach he definitely reminds me of Tony Almeda. Right?
