The other night we discovered a baby bird in our sprinkler valve box. We weren't really sure what to do with her so we just said something like, "Sad." And walked into the house. I noticed throughout the evening Zach was a little distracted.
Later I went in the backyard to find this situation:
When I asked what he was doing, he replied that he was drilling a tupperware dish into our tree to make a nest for the bird. Well of course he was.
We transferred her from the valve box to the psuedo nest and fed her mashed up cat food using a match stick; as directed by Google.
Zach named her Penelope. She wasn't that cute.
And despite all our efforts when we got home from work the next day she was...um not alive. RIP Penelope.
Rescue Mission fail. Sorry Zach, good effort though.

Oh how sad.
Kudos to both of you for doing the animal rescue mission thing.
Oh my gosh. I want to die and laugh at the same time. "Zach seemed distracted, lol."
Sweet Penelope, rest in peace.
Poor birdie. Zachary is so sweet to attempt this rescue. Penelope needed her mama. :(
LOL and it's 'Tupperware' not 'tubberware'. LOL but tubberware sounds cuter.
Anon - This is definitely not my first nor last mistake when it comes to kitchen supplies.
I'm more disturbed by the fact that my son-in-law showed more maternal instincts than my darling daughter.
You probably ran back into the house so you wouldn't miss Bachelorette...meanwhile Zach is a mess worrying about the sweet lover baby bird.
LOL to this entire scene. But not LOL to the dead baby bird.
That was me. D'oh.
such a hilarious story! you are the best story teller. fun running into you at target.
Poor Penelope and poor Zach it sounds like he was really concerned.
What a sweetheart...seriously a valiant effort.
