They're going to be really happy I posted this.
It was during this time that the three of us had become masters of our art - the art of the "drive-by". This is an ancient and sacred ritual of the high school female, and today I shall enlighten you.
A drive-by is the act of driving by the house of any and all boys that you had a crush on. Often these boys did not know you existed. Especially for the three of us; because our drive-by prey during this time period was a group we liked to call "The Senior Hotts". They were a year older, they were assholes, they were "hot", and they treated us like crap. Therefore, we loved them.
The purpose of the drive-by is two fold.
- Confirming the male specimen is in fact at home.
- Feel the aura of his presence by driving by his residence, resulting in giggles and shrieks.
There are several ways a drive-by can be successful, and there are several ways it can fail. Here are some key points:
- Success is confirmation he is home, and therefore not at another girl's house. This is usually done by spotting his car in the driveway. Remember to giggle and yell, "He's home!"
- Success is finishing the job unnoticed. This is key. Drive-by's are to be done in complete secrecy. If the male notices you, your friends, and your car; you have failed. Now you must quickly come up with an excuse of why you were driving by his house at 10:00pm at night while listening to sappy love music. Heaven forbid you just stop and talk to him and explain you were coming by to see what he was up to - that would be ridiculous. Best to just drive away really fast.

What's REALLY pathetic is when you do a walk-by instead because you don't have a car.
In other words, this post spoke to me.
How about biking by?
This post brought back memories and made me laugh. Thanks.
You have just described about 99% of the time my friends and I spent together throughout high school. We would also "drop by" their places of employment, and extra bonus if we worked with them, therefore it seemed even more legitimate.
Gotta love the drive-by's :)
Malia! Stop looking so attractive even in high school... like a decade ago! Is it me or apparently her look is timeless?! No offense Erica, I do love the 2000 look, I mean who doesn't but goodness gracious, Malia doesn't dated, just younger!
and ps... who doesn't love the good old stalker drive bys? Love.
Amanda - I agree. I was kind of pissed when I saw this because Malia looks exactly the same and I look like I got stung in the face by a bumble bee.
lol lol lol
I remember hearing the tales of these drive by's.
Oh, the Orem drive-by... How I remember thee...
LOL LOL LOL. Erica I'm totally dying at this post. The best was when their car wasn't their and suddenly drive bys weren't so fun anymore. "He's probably at so and so's house! She's not even pretty." "No, I was passing by him in the hall and he said something about working out tonight." "Oh yeah, that's right!" (sigh of relief)
And WHAT are you talking about? I have not a stitch of makeup on, and I'm wearing a fossil watch and semi formal wear to high school!
lol- oh yes. I remember doing many-a-drive-by's....
lol, lol! Seriously how much money do you think we spent on gas doing drive by's.
Also I am very disapointed that you guys weren't better friends, and didn't tell me to burn that shirt! I wore it atleast once a week, and thougtht I was hot stuff.
Heidi if you remember, I had on RED slide on tennishoes that matched my shirt. So I was not one to be handing out fashion advice.
Bonus points on drive by if you saw another hot guy's truck at his house ("How hot is it that they are friends and hanging out?!")
And oh my word if by chance the song that you heard him singing once, or the song that was the theme of Christmas Formal that he looked so hot at in his tux, or the song that has a word that sounds like his name happened to come on the radio while you passed his house? IT'S A SIGN!!!
Thank you for the lovely flash back.
I did this once to and Ex-Crush who totally broke my heart... my best friend flipped him off as we drove by, little did we know he lived on a street that was a dead end, so we had to turn around and drive by his house again! He was outside and completely noticed! FAIL!
Oh, the drive-by. My own mother crashed into her crush's "girl visitor's" car while performing one. She was trying to peer through the living room window I think. Classy.
this tops drive bys, but may also show just how awesome we were in highscool. we stumbled upon negatives in photo of the hot seniors, helped ourselves and made copies for each of us!
Ashlee Molina highschool activities: drive by's.
Seriously. 2000 was a hell of a year.
Also Corri, that never happened. And we never made copies of the pictures to hang up in our rooms.
